Die Webber/Morris Big Band, geleitet von den Multi-Holzblasinstrumentalistinnen und Komponistinnen Anna Webber und Angela Morris, feiert die besondere Strömung der Jazzmusiker:innen in Brooklyn, wobei jedes Mitglied ein:e Weltklasse-Improvisator:in ist und zugleich hoch versiert im Interpretieren komplexer moderner Kompositionen. Laut den Bandleaderinnen ist das Ziel der Band „zu versuchen, sie so wenig wie möglich nach Big-Band-Musik klingen zu lassen. Es ist eine interessante Herausforderung, eine Form mit Tradition zu nehmen und etwas Neues daraus zu machen.“ Ihr Debütalbum Both Are True (2020) erschien in den Best-of-2020-Listen von New York Times, Bandcamp und NPR. Ihr zweites Album Unseparate erhielt 4½ Sterne im DownBeat Magazine, das es als „ein ebenso filmisches Hörerlebnis wie alles seit Charlie Hadens Epos Liberation Music Orchestra von 1970“ bezeichnete. Unseparate wurde außerdem in zahlreichen Best-of-2025-Jahreslisten gewürdigt, darunter bei Bandcamp, PopMatters, JazzTimes, Arts Fuse, Denver Post, El Intruso und dem New York City Jazz Record.

The Webber/Morris Big Band, led by multi-woodwind instrumentalists and composers Anna Webber and Angela Morris, celebrates the unique current of jazz musicians in Brooklyn, each member a world-class improviser who is also highly skilled at interpreting complex modern compositions. According to the leaders, the goal of this band is “to try to make it sound the least like big-band music as possible. It’s an interesting challenge to take a form that has a legacy and try to do something new with it.” Their 2020 debut album, Both Are True, was featured on Best of 2020 lists by New York Times, Bandcamp, and NPR. Their second album, Unseparate, received ****1/2 stars in DownBeat Magazine, calling it „as cinematic a listening experience as anything since Charlie Haden’s 1970 epic Liberation Music Orchestra.“ Unseparate received considerable acclaim in Best of 2025 year-end lists, including Bandcamp, PopMatters, JazzTimes, Arts Fuse, Denver Post, El Intruso, and the New York City Jazz Record.
