Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq begann seine musikalische Laufbahn früh: Mit acht Jahren erhielt er von seiner Mutter Klarinettenunterricht und gewann bereits als Kind zahlreiche Wettbewerbe, zudem wirkte er mit zehn und elf Jahren als Soloklarinettist auf zwei LP-Aufnahmen des Los Angeles Unified School District Honor Orchestra mit. Er studierte Soziologie am Whitman College und ist seit 1972 als professioneller Musiker tätig. Prägend war seine Zusammenarbeit mit Horace Tapscott und der Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, wo er als Assistent des Dirigenten, Arrangeur, Komponist und Instrumentalist wirkte. Als produktiver Bandleader leitet er zahlreiche Ensembles und verbindet dabei Tradition mit neuen musikalischen Stimmen. Er trat mit vielen bedeutenden Jazzmusiker:innen auf, darunter Walter Bishop Jr., Sam Rivers, Benny Golson und Omar Sosa, und versteht Musik bis heute als kulturelle wie künstlerische Kraft im Spannungsfeld von Gemeinschaft, Geschichte und Zukunft.

Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq began his musical journey early: introduced to the clarinet by his mother at age eight, he soon won numerous competitions and appeared at ages ten and eleven as principal clarinetist on two LP recordings with the Los Angeles Unified School District Honor Orchestra. He studied sociology at Whitman College and has worked professionally as a musician since 1972. A formative period was his collaboration with Horace Tapscott and the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, where he served as assistant conductor, arranger, composer, and instrumentalist. As a prolific bandleader he leads numerous ensembles, consistently bridging tradition with new musical voices. He has performed with many major jazz artists, including Walter Bishop Jr., Sam Rivers, Benny Golson, and Omar Sosa, and continues to view music as both a cultural and artistic force rooted in community, history, and forward motion.
