Nduduzo Makhathini ist ein südafrikanischer Improvisationskünstler und Wissenschaftler mit einem Doktortitel in Musik. Er ist zudem ein mehrfach ausgezeichneter Künstler und international anerkannter Musiker. Makhathini hat bisher zwölf Alben veröffentlicht und steht derzeit bei dem renommierten Label Blue Note Records in den USA unter Vertrag. Sein dicht gefüllter Tourplan hält ihn in den aktuellen Jazzpraktiken und -diskursen präsent.
Er hat mit Wynton Marsalis und dem Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Hamilton de Holanda, Omagugu, Shabaka Hutchings, Black Coffee und zuletzt mit der WDR Big Band zusammengearbeitet.
Makhathini hat auf renommierten Festivals weltweit gespielt, darunter das Umbria Jazz Festival, Joy of Jazz, Jarasum Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival und das Berlin Jazz Festival.
Kürzlich kehrte er von einer langen Tournee seines neuesten Projekts „uNomkhubulwane“ durch die USA, Südamerika und Europa zurück, die unter anderem sein Debüt in der legendären Carnegie Hall in New York und in der Kölner Philharmonie umfasste.

Nduduzo Makhathini is a South African improvisor and scholar with a PhD in music. He is also a multi award winning artist and internationally acclaimed musician. Makhathini holds 12 albums under his belt. He is currently signed to the prestigious Blue Note Records in the US and has a busy tourist schedule that keeps him relevant in current jazz practices and discourses.
Makhathini has collaborated with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra, Hamilton de Holanda, Omagugu, Shabaka Hutchings, Black Coffee and most recently, the WDR Big Band among many others.
