Changes to the Category System

The category system of the German Jazz Prize will feature partly revised and new categories in the next edition.

Large Ensemble of the Year (International)

Large Ensemble of the Year and Large Ensemble of the Year International replace the categories Ensemble of the Year (International) in the category spectrum and are part of the public submission categories for the first time this year. From now on, permanent ensembles with at least eight musicians can apply for the German Jazz Prize in these two categories

Newcomer of the Year (International)

The categories Debut Album of the Year (International) will now be called Newcomer of the Year (International) to more clearly address first releases by emerging artists.

Music Mediation

The newly established category Music Mediation honors projects in the field of jazz that stand out through culturally exceptional activities in the areas of music mediation, inclusion, and/or participation.
