Jazz Highlights in Cologne and Bremen

Award Ceremony on April 18, 2024

At the award ceremony at the E-Werk in Cologne, the audience can expect live performances by the Cologne saxophonist Angelika Niescier in a duo with Alexander Hawkins, the inimitable Omer Klein Trio, and the legendary international jazz pianist and composer Kenny Barron. The evening will be hosted by moderator Hadnet Tesfai and the artistic director of jazzahead!, Götz Bühler. A limited number of tickets are available for purchase online at rausgegangen.de.

The German Jazz Prize at jazzahead!

Jazz enthusiasts in Bremen can also look forward to two additional program highlights: As part of the official opening of jazzahead! on April 11, the German Jazz Prize for Lifetime Achievement will be announced and presented in advance.

Additionally, for the first time, Initiative Musik will be collaborating with the Bremer Pusdorf Studios e.V. as part of the jazzahead! Clubnight on April 12 to present a diverse program featuring nominees of the German Jazz Prize. From 8:30 PM, the audience can experience live performances by Max Andrzejewski’s Hütte, Mother, and Kira Linn’s Linntett at the Pusdorf Studios’ Cafete. Concerts at the Cologne Jazzweek 

In cooperation with Cologne Jazzweek, the German Jazz Prize will present five concerts on September 6 featuring this year’s nominees and winners at WDR Funkhaus (Klaus von Bismarck Saal), Stadtgarten, and Loft. The internationally renowned festival for jazz and improvised music is considered a highlight in the cultural calendar of the city of Cologne and was awarded the German Jazz Prize as “Festival of the Year” in 2023. The live acts will be announced following the award ceremony on April 18.
