New Concept for the Fourth Edition!
On 18 April 2024, Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media Claudia Roth will award the German Jazz Prize. Two central innovations are taking effect for the fourth edition: The German Jazz Prize will make a stop in Cologne next spring and the category system was sufficiently revised.
From now on, the German Jazz Prize will be awarded in 22 categories, including Artists, Recording/Production, Live, Composition/Arrangement and Special Prizes. Categories for artists will be combined and greater focus will be placed on national categories. Instruments that were previously considered “special” will be included in regular groups instead. In the main category “Live” there will be two new sub-categories for national and international “Live Acts of the Year” to honour artists with a special stage presence. Further, venues will no longer receive the “Venue of the Year” award, but will instead be considered for the “Special Jury Award”. This award is now open to international projects and actors.
